Do I need to clean my cat’s ears? Cats are known to be very hygienic animals and can usually keep their ears clean on their own. However, it is important for pet parents to check their cat’s ears regularly, as a build-up of wax, dirt or infections can cause discomfort and health problems.

How to clean your cat's ears:

1. Check for Needs: Before cleaning, look inside your cat's ears. They should be pink, have no strong odor, and be free of excess wax or discharge. If they are just a little dirty, cleaning may not be necessary.

2. Choose the right time: Clean your cat's ears in a calm environment, and try to do it while he is relaxed.

3. Materials needed:

Pet ear cleaning solution (recommended by your veterinarian)

Clean cotton or gauze (do not use cotton swabs, as they can push dirt in or cause injury).

4. Procedure:

  • Hold the cat carefully and firmly, but without hurting it.

  • Place a small amount of the solution in the cat's ear, following the veterinarian's instructions.

  • Gently massage the base of the ear to help the solution loosen the dirt.

  • Use cotton or gauze to wipe away excess solution and dirt.

  • Avoid forcing

  • Never insert objects into the ear canal

  • Clean only the external and visible part

Warning signs: If you notice a bad smell, redness, excess wax, dark secretions (which may indicate mites) or if your cat scratches its ears frequently, consult a veterinarian. These simple care steps will help keep your cat's ears healthy!
