Continuing our series on types of environmental enrichment (EE), today we will talk about sensory EE, whose main objective is to stimulate the animals' senses, through the promotion of sounds, visual stimuli, varied foods and different textures and aromas.

Enriching your pet's environment is essential for its well-being and quality of life, preventing stress and the development of behavioral disorders, such as anxiety.

Knowing this, here are some EAS tips to make your cat happier!

  • Window netting for cats: Placing beds, shelves or nets in strategic locations so that cats can observe the view, such as birds or other animals, is a great visual stimulus.

  • Interactive mats: They stimulate not only vision (with colors), but also touch (texture) and the sense of smell of felines, as they need to sniff to find food.

  • Aromatic herbs such as Catnip: It releases an aroma that makes felines happier or more relaxed. It is not addictive and is very good for them.

  • Sisal or other textured scratching posts: The act of scratching stimulates touch and vision, providing stress relief and well-being.

  • Relaxing music: Nature sounds, such as birds and water, which simulate the natural environment, as well as soft music, help reduce stress and have positive effects on felines.

  • Wheatgrass: Stimulates taste, touch, smell and vision, acting as entertainment for cats.

The important thing is to be creative and offer stimuli that respect the natural behaviors of the species. A happy cat is a healthy cat! #catsitter #catsitting #petsitter #catlover #catlife #lisboa #catnannylisboa
